Prayag is viewed by the Indians as the creation point of all civilization. This island of mythical creation is located at the intersection of the Jumna and Ganges river and is also believed to be the point where heaven and Earth were separated. Located on the island is an ancient tree with a serpent shrine said to guard the it, the shrine is the only one of its kind in all of India. Pilgrimages are often taken by religious Indians to this sacred cite.
