The role of Emperor Legalism in society is that the emphasis of power was on the position, not on the person filling the position. In addition, even if the person who possessed power was an unworthy ruler, the public laws helped keep the system going, something known as a state machine. An example of legalism today can be found in our own country. There have been many presidents of the United States, however, only one is currently in power.
