There were many roles of Taoist emperors and their roles were very important even though there were very few Chinese emperors who supported Taoism. Some of the emperors are even recognized as deities who teach taoism and are worshiped by the people. The Taoist emperor wan not supposed to get into government affair, and he was supposed to focus all his time to the practice of meditation and purification so that he could have unification with the Tao while a Prime Minister who was knew the way of the tao very well governed the country, according to Taoist political theory. The ancient emperors who were expressed as deities had their own roles in the taoist society, but they all taught the religion to the people.
