The Tripitaka, also known as the three baskets, are the oldest Buddhist scriptures. It is broken down into three parts: sermons by the Buddha, interpretation of the Buddha's concepts, and the rules about life a a monk. Lots of the text in the Tripitaka is said to of been spoken by the Buddha himself and then chanted by monks.
