Why did Indians convert to Islam? Indians converted to Islam because of the spread of Muslim trade into India. Muslim merchants dominate trade between India and the West from the 7th through the 15th century. The first ship of Muslims was first seen on the coast of India in the year 630 AD. Muslim merchants and traders propagated their religion wherever they went. Indians were influenced into converting to Islam also because of Mahmud of Ghazni's raids on northern India. Mahmud of Ghazni replaced buddhist temples with mosques, and spread Islam that way. Muslim Merchants who came through India influenced many Indians into converting. Muslim traders also spread the culture of Islam, by the items that were traded to India. All of these events lead to India's conversion to Islam.
