What Were the Long Term effects of the Mongols on Russia and the Middle East? The Mongols had control over Russia for almost 4 centuries. They overran Russia between 1237 and 1241 and then the Russian princes regained control over their lands by the mid-sixteenth century. Though they did not occupy Russia (because it was mainly forest land) they still did extract tribute from the people living there. The Mongols brought all the people in the Russian land under one rule until they were overthrown by the Russian princes. Because the Mongols were big on trade, their trade routes were the main legacy they left in Russia. The Golden Horde was the khanate which had control over Russia.

As for the Mongol's long term effects on the Middle East, they built roads that connected trade from the west to the east. They also introduced Islam to the nomadic people that lived in the Middle East. They promoted Persian culture because the Mongols assimilated into the Middle Eastern ways of life by converting and accepting their traditions. In this way, the Mongols kept the Persian way of life alive until the influence began to diminish. The Ilkhanate of Persia was the khanate which had control over the Middle East.
