The reign of Khubilai Khan was from 1264-1294. Khubilai Khan was very ruthless when handling his enemies, but when it came to the public of his own lands, he took great interest in their welfare. He supported most religions of his Chinese subjects. He was very generous towards the poor, and was known for his efforts to build roads. He relentlessly attacked the Song Dynasty in Southern China, and as a result, established the Yuan Dynasty. He was the first non-Chinese Ruler to control China. In China, he greatly increased agriculture. He was made famous by Marco Polo who visited his Empire in China.

  • Kubilai outlawed intermarriage between Mongols and Chinese and forbade the Chinese to learn the Mongol language. Mongols resisted exterminating the Chinese race, as some had suggested, and simply brought in foreign administrators and instead, extracted as much revenue as possible for the native Chinese. Mongols never assimilated into the Chinese culture and dismantled the Confucian education system and ended the civil service exam.
