St. Thomas Aquinas- (1225-1274) A scholastic theologian who taught at the University of Paris. He held to his Christian beliefs but thought that Aristotle understood and explained the world better than anyone of that era. He saw no contradiction between Christianity and Aristotle, but found them complementary and even thought God could rationally be proved to exist by Aristotle's way of thinking. He tried to formulate the most truthful and persuasive system of thought by combining Aristotle and Christianity.
