(1304-1369) Ibn Battuta was a Moroccan legal scholar. He served as a qadi to the sultan of Delhi between 1333-1341. In 1341, he was appointed to lead an embassy to China. He arrived in 1345. After this year, he traveled to the equivalent of 44 modern-day countries. Some of the places he visited include the southern port cities of China, Inda, the Persian gulf, Syria, Egypt, Granada (in Spain), the Mali Empire and Mecca. He wrote about his journeys and his accounts stand with Marco Polo's book among the classic works of travel literature.
