Leonardo da Vinci was a renaissance painter born in 1452 and died in 1519. He was an Italian artist and studied human form and made the people in their pictures have emotions. He relied on linear perspective so that his paintings would look real and 3-D rather then 2-D. He was trying to make realistic depictions of people and other things in his work. (T&E p. 583) Leonardo also researched anatomy, zoology, astronomy, geology, and geography and made many observations that made him one of the great scientists in his time as well as a great artist. Some of his works are the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and Madonna of the Rocks. Leonardo was a man of many interests [1] Leonardo was a part of the humanist type of painting and some of his paintings are some of the most popular and influential of the whole Renaissance. Also, Leonardo kept notebooks with all of his scientific and mechanical discoveries showing his inventive mind again. [2] WHI-Chap22-Obj5
