Islamic values spread through the efforts of legal scholars and missionary activities of Sufi mystics. Sufi missionaries traveled to recently conquered and converted lands to win popularity for faith in India, Asia, and African between 1000 and 1500. Sufis emphasized piety and devotion to Allah as well as the tolerance of reverence of traditional deities. Sufis treated these as manifestations of Allah and his powers. By taking flexible approaches to their missions, the Sufis spread Islamic values without facing resistance.

On the other hand, Roman Catholic missionaries traveled long distances in hope of spreading Christianity. Missionaries accompanied the crusaders and other large forces to the lands where Europeans extended their influence after the year 1000. Missionaries attracted converts in large numbers, and Roman Catholic Christianity became securely established. Ares like the Baltic lands, the Balkan region, Sicily, and Spain were places of long-term Christian influence.
