The Great Ocean Conveyor Belt is an important part of the global ocean nutrient and carbon dioxide cycles. Nutrients and carbon dioxides are removed from warm surface waters and are renewed once more as the surface waters sink to the bottom of the oceans. This conveyor belt of water/nutrients/carbon dioxide is important because it serves as the base of the world's food chain. It also affects temperatures in Europe and other places in the world. Thanks to the ocean conveyor belt, humans have the resources necessary to feed themselves and their domesticated animals.
