The Yangtze River is one of the two great rivers that run through China. It is to the South of the China Proper, below the Yellow River, and is the longest flowing river in the country. The Yangtze's mouth is in the western Tibetan Plateau, and it flows West to East. These rivers remain a great source of transportation and trade throughout China, though there are none flowing North to South. The Yangtze River flows for about 3,915 miles, and finally empties out into the East China Sea near Shanghai.
