History 8 China Vocabulary

The feminine passive principle in nature that in Chinese cosmology is exhibited in darkness, cold, or wetness and that combines with yang to produce all that comes to be. Yin represents the dark, cold, female, moon, side of the yin-yang. The yin-yang comes from the Yin Dynasty, 1100 BC. Although the Yin is the negative side of the yin-yang, the Yang could not survive without the Yin because they rely on each other and without one the other would have no chance of surviving. Yin-Yang exist in all things, balancing good and bad.
