King Saul was anointed king of Israel by Samuel, one of God’s prophets, because of the failing local leader system and impending threat of the Philistines. Under god Saul went on to unite the people of Israel and create an army that would fend off the Philistine attack.

After growing lazy from the spoils of war king Saul disbanded a majority of his army witch led to his downfall because his son started a war they couldn't win with their shortage of soldiers. After Saul’s downfall David was anointed king ending Saul’s reign. Throughout David’s reign Saul attempted to kill him many times and always failed until the day he was killed in the Phoenician war.
