An interregnum is the time between different rulers or dynasties. This is w a period where the government does not have strong control over the civilians.

Note: During this time, uprisings and anarchy are very common.

Egypt’s many rulers do not all come from the same family tree. Different families or dynasties took power in Egypt when the prior family is weak. For example, after the fall of the Middle Kingdom, Egypt was left weak and defenseless against invading powers. The Asiatic, desert people, invaded and made themselves kings and rulers of Egypt for two centuries. A more modern day example of an interregnum is the USSR.  When Brezhnev, the ruler of USSR, died. This country was thrown into a time of crisis and mayhem, showing another chaotic interregnum.
