In response to the Younger Dryas and the drought that came with it, the Natufians moved to the drying up lake in Jordan.  The lake had few areas of waters left, but the Natufian groups decided to begin planting their wheat as a last resort for their starving families.  This small act led to the Natufians remaining in the lake area and becoming the first farmers.  After about 1,000 years, the Younger Dryas began to end, but the Natufians had gotten so used to their lifestyle that they stayed and farmed their wheat, instead of becoming nomads again.  They were right in the middle of a hunting society and a farming society.

The Natufian groups had made and used sickles for cutting the wheat in the past, but once they began farming it in huge quantities, they needed stronger sickles, and these were double-bladed sickles.  They used grinding stones to grind the wheat they grew and other foods they had gathered.  The wheat supply was growing hugely, leading the groups to build huts for storing the wheat, keeping it dry and safe from other animals that could eat it.
