The Middle East is a very arid region, this means that there is not much precipitation in the form of water or ice.  The Ghassoulians thrived in this region for about 1000 years.  There are three things a human needs to survive: shelter, food, and water.  The Ghassoulians could farm for food, and had plaster to build homes.  The question is, how did the Ghassoulians get water in such an arid region?  When the Ghassoulians came along, farming was already a created technique.  The Ghassoulians started to wonder, how did the crops get their water in such an arid region?  The Ghassoulians explored and found little springs in the mountains.  They soon realized that this was where the crops got their water.  Next, the Ghassoulians devised a plan to carve away at the mountains and build man-made river beds.  These river beds meandered across the mountains all of the way to the city.  Next, they had to get the water to the people, they made clay pots and put the water in the pots and transported it to water to the rest of the city.
