A prepared core is a section of stone that has been deliberately shaped to easily produce blades. Usually made of chert, flint or obsidian. This technique is believed to first be used roughly 200,000 years ago. This technique demonstrates that human ancestors had begun to imagine what the end product of a tool would look like before they began to begin to sharpen and fully form the blade.
