Bipeds

Bipeds are organisms that walk on 2 feet. Bipedalism is also when an organism walks on 2 feet. The ability to walk upright on 2 feet is a very difficult task to perform, which is probably why humans are dominant on the planet. The australopithecines hip bones moved so that legs could now align with the backbone, and grow closer together to hold to weight of the body. Their ankles also became stronger to be able to hold their weight. Finally, the big toe moved and aligned with the other toes so that the foot could no longer grasp things, but walk upright in an easier fashion. All of these modifications of their figures helped a lot with their running and walking capabilities.
