While Dorothy Garrod was working in Mount Carmel on a Natufian site, she unearthed a composite tool made of bone attached to many  small, sharp blades made of flint. The tool took much knowledge and handiwork to create. After further speculation, the tool was found to have a shiny residue coating the blades. Testing concluded that this residue was a silica from an ancient form of wheat. Garrod believed that this tool was an ancient form of a sickle, a tool for harvesting grasses such as wheat and barley. This lead to the idea that the Natufian people were able to harvest the wheat and grind and process it, as well as add to a substance such as animal fat,  to create a sort of flatbread, evidence of which was found at their sights. All of this information comes together to indicate that the Natufian people were the world's first farmers.
