Environment has always affected human life and behavior. From the very beginning, when our early ancestors completely relied on what the Earth provided, to even when humans began changing the environment to suit their own needs, the environment had always owned life in some way or form. If the environment provides settlements with the proper resources and geographical features, civilizations will be able to rise. For huge cities to exist, the land has to be able to support human, plant, and animal life; have the proper resources like wood, stone, water, and ores; and be located in a good place for trade, precipitation, and possibly attacking or defending. The landscape and climate can not be changed easily, so humans had to change their lifestyle or move to allow the birth of a civilization. In Mesopotamia, there was not much wood, water, or stone, and there were dangerous river floods that could wipe out crops, so for the city-states of Mesopotamia to be born, they had to adapt by using mud and straw bricks instead of wood or stone, and create irrigation systems along with river levees and dams. The ideas, styles, and civilizations in Ancient Mesopotamia were reliant on the environment. The culture of the civilizations were also based off the area of where they were located.
