Fundamental Principles Mencius
Basis of Society Mencius
Societal Goals Confucius The goal of Confucius was to create a stable and just society here on earth. He believed that the essential quality required to build this society was goodness. Confucius said that people were not born good but had to be taught goodness, even the emperors. Scholars needed to teach the emperors goodness so they could then pass it on to the people. Confucianism was not an organized religion. He was not worried about god or the after life, and even stated that "I don't know anything about those things."
