Introduction
The AMD Athlon Processor was the first seventh-generation x86 processor and was the first desktop processor to reach speeds of one gigahertz.

Overview
It was released in June of 1999. After the release of the AMD’s K6 line of processors, they proceeded to come pump out their next generation: the K7s. AMD designed them with more decoding capabilities, and then carry out optimal instructions [1] 
Significance
The significance of AMD’s Athlon Processor was it the first desktop processor to reach speeds of 1 GHz, it also pushed other brands of computer manufacturers such as Intel to start releasing more high end processors, which then would eventually lead to a revolution in advancements in computer hardware. </ref> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athlon
