Physical place is the landforms, flora, fauna, and climate. This novel takes place in northeast Africa and is set in the savanna with many wild animals and lots of trees.

History as an Interpretation: Lost records

In the novel it states, "... But at the same time the ground has been churned around and shoved to and fro and turned upside down, even, so you get a series of strata in one place, and half a mile they're the other way up, or the whole sections are missing.", this helps with the theory of history as an interpretation, because some whole pieces of our history can be destroyed and never found again.
