Hero's Journey from ''the Alchemist''

In the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Santiago must use the wisdom he receives on the quest to the pyramids and be able to use that wisdom in a human life. For example, Santiago says, "I want to stay in the oasis, I've found Fatima, and , as far as I'm concerned, she's worth more than treasure (122)." The alchemist goes on to tell Santiago that if he stayed in the oasis that he would be the counselor of the oasis. He would then go on to have enough gold to buy many sheep and many camels, and he would marry Fatima. Some time during the second year he will remember the treasure and the omens will start to speak of it insistently and you will try to ignore them. During the third year, the omens will continue to to speak of your treasure and Personal Legend and you will walk around, night after night, at the oasis, and Fatima will be unhappy because she'll feel it was she who interrupted your quest (123-124).
