The term hadith refers to an Islamic sacred book which is the compilation of the deeds and actions of Muhammad. The hadith refers specifically to Muhammad, unlike the Quran, which tells of his visions and encounters with Gabriel. The hadith presents a perfect example for Muslims to live by: the deeds of Muhammad himself. The hadith contains the sayings of Muhammad along with his famed deeds. The hadith was passed down orally for around one hundred years after his death until Caliph Uthman urged for it to be officially transcribed, when it became a holy book in Islam.
