Hajj - One of the Five Pillars of Islam. In honor of Muhammad's visits to Mecca in 629 and 632, those who are physically and financially able must undertake the hajj and make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca in their lifetime. The hajj is held once a year in Saudi Arabia during the last month of the Muslim calendar. The pilgrimage takes one week and includes a number of stops at various sites on the outskirts of the city of Mecca; you begin and end by circling the Ka'ba.
