How Islam entered the Indian subcontinent Islam was introduced into India by three different ways, one of which was militarily. In the mid-seventh century, Arabic armies made their way into India. this expansion was not intentionally for growth purposes, but simply exploratory. Upon discovering this land, the arabs launched a well-organized seige, and conquered Sind. Another path of Islam into India was Muslim merchants who shared their faiths with those living on coastal regions in India. These merchants made little communities within India's coastal cities.Marriage between Muslim merchants and women from the area became popular. This method of Islam entering India proved to be as effective as the military expansion. The final route Islam took into India was through the movement of Turkish-speaking people from Asia. The leader of these Turkish people was Mahmud of Ghazni who then decided to venture into south India. This group destroyed countless sites relating to other beliefs. After their demolishing, they would then erect Muslim worship sites on the very places they had just destroyed. Through these three routes, Islam entered the Indian subcontinent.
