Franciscans- Similar to the Dominicans, the Franciscans were an order of beggars known as the Franciscan friars who thought that the church had become too materialistic, so they served as a movement that worked with the church to minimize the importance of materialistic values. They gave up all material possessions and had to beg for food and anything else they would need. They also combated heterodox movements and worked to persuade heretics to return to the Roman Catholic church. See also: WHI- Chap20-Obj5
