The Incas were a powerful people that lived around the Andes mountains. It lasted from about 1471 to 1572. The Inca empire was the largest empire in the pre-columbian Americas. They were led by the Sappa Inca, the most famous one was named Pachacuti ("Earthshaker"), who massively expanded the Inca empire. They used the quipu to keep track of their responsibilities. They had a very elaborate system of roads, and their capital was named Cuzco. The Incas maintained a large workforce through the mita system, a very efficient and effective way to maintain the empire.
